Theres been just about enough negative NON GUITAR related stuff posted the last day or so, SO, I thought id be the first to mention a few of the POSITIVE things I LOVE about the OLF -

1) The ability to have a spirited passionate debate, like adults Guitar MAKERS are by no fault of there own, a passionate bunch!

2) the ability to agree to disagree and move on to the next most intriguing topic - preferably guitars!-

3) The OLF Body - comprised of folks we all have seen here and there on different boards, who now call the OLF home because of its "VIBE" for lack of a better word.

4) And certainly not the least, the talent of its body - and the willingness to share that talent with open arms.

OK- IF you have something positive to add, please do!

There are many things I like about the OLF.

The Format is great. I like it better than any of the others I have tried.

The people here are among the best anywhere. Great builders, willing to share with those of us who are still a little confused about how guitars work.

Great topics. We can talk about prices, vendors or just about anything else. It seems that everyone here has the good sense to not read a topic if it is not interesting to them.

Excellent sysop. How could you beat Lance if you were looking for some to run a site like this.

Ok, I"ll shut up and give someone else a chance to chime in.

I have to say that from the Newbie/Wannabe perspective this is clearly the most newcomer friendly site on the internet. There is very little to no clanishness here that you often see elsewhere - I think Brock commented somewhere that such is a common attribute of more established forums, and is hopefully one we will avoid.

I have many times seen several different suggestions in response to a single questions, with never a "that's wrong" statement by any whose suggestions have differed. That's pretty remarkable in an artistic community where passions do indeed run high and sometimes hot.

There is, in general, a considerate attitude among most who post here. Replies are normally phrased with some level of sensitivity for the audience.

I sense that there are an unusually high percentage of people on here whom I would enjoy as much or more in person than I do here. I often find myself reading threads that may not interest me only because the people who have posted there are interesting people regardless of the topic.

Bottom line; this is just a very comfortable place to learn about guitar making and enjoy the company of some very talented people who make guitars.

For all of the above, I am most grateful. My thanks to one any all.

What a community. The best bunch of guys and gals to be found

I can make the next statement in regards to luthiers in general, but exceptionally so for the OLF membership. It is more like a true fraternity than a mere trade or interest forum. If one of us is stuck behind a problem each does his part and more to pull them past the problem." None of us have to respond this way, but at this forum it seems to be instinctive and I must very contagious.

Thank you Don. For turning me on to this forum.

Thank you Lance for providing and moderating my home on the net.

And thank you, All the OLF members for allowing me to be a part of a wonderful group of termites

HOw right you are Jerry.
I had the opportunity of meeting a few of the guys on the OLF at the recent ASIA convention in Baltimore and they are indeed a great bunch of folks.

I 2nd Robbie's opinion, having gone to ASIA with him and met many of the OLF members, they are much nicer in person. Sometimes it is hard to show sarcasim in words and things heat up, but in person you will see that most everyone hear have great sense of humors and this is what makes this forum great. If you can't joke about making mistakes, we'd all be crying to each other. This is my home away from home, and thanks Lance for making it a great place to learn!

Having met so many OLFer's and dealing with you people I feel like we are friends. I love to help people start in this hobby.
I enjoy alot of the posts like Jerry said , not so much for the content( but I usually find myself learning) but the humor and experience we all share.
If I did offend anyone that was not my intent.I did hope that we all learn for this. If one thing we can still have our own opions and not get miffed at anyone that differs from yours.

I've only been a member for a couple of days and have already gotten my moneys worth. Money? Wait a minute, I didn't pay any money to Join OLF.
Did I get all this for free? I can't remember that far back. (2 days ago).
Ahh, the '60's. I had such a great time back then, I think.

In no particular order:

1. No "blocked" sections for "subscribers only."

2. If a member needs some last-minute something, often others will offer to send it for free (or, at least, for a minimal fee, or just postage).

3. I had a question awhile ago about getting custom templates for a reasonable cost. TWO vendor/members said, "I can do that!".

4. People take the time to post jig pictures and explanations. Recent router/planing solutions come to mind.

5. A vendor has an idea for a jig, and actually asks us for our opinions and ideas. Where else can you get THAT?

6. Questioners are let down easy for "bad" ideas. Usually with reasoning explained (which takes valuable time/brain-power from the responder).

7. Beginners are treated with respect.

8. The rampant sharing of experience and ideas.

9. Friendly and informal ambience.
